Frederick John Bahr Jr. was the second child born to Frederick John Bahr and Margaret Kessler Bahr. Before their son was born on Long Island, they lived in Queens, NY with their first child, Norma Virginia [Norma Virginia Davis], moving then to Long Island, where the father was a gardner (perhaps owning an orchard). They then moved to Pennsylvania, where the Bahr family grew -- adding Anne Edith Bahr Stevens, Minnie Bahr Gayhardt and Harvey Lewis Bahr. By 1871, they had moved to Back Creek, VA, where son Leonard Bahr was born. By 1872, Frederick relocated the family to Cumberland, MD. In 1874, with mortgaged land on Wills Mountain, they lived in a cabin. The last two children born were Elizabeth Katherine Ingels and Centennial Bahr. According to census reports, there were 10 children born altogether, but only these 8 survived.

On June 25th of that year, he married 21 year old "Riecke" (Fredericka C. Bahr) (nee Pleiss). By 1896-1900 they lived at 1157 Pinckney, and by 1903, briefly moved to 1155 Columbia Ave. For years 1918-19, Baltimore City directories record his wife living with her brothers at 1006 Druid Hill Ave., possibly to take care of Caroline Pleiss, her mother [see memorial], who died at that address in 1920. Censuses of 1910-1930, record Frederick and Riecke living at 1103 Race St. up until his death.
Riecke and Frederick Jr. had at least 9 children: William Frederick [see memorial], Richard H. [see memorial], Emma, Alma [see memorial], Frederick Henry [see memorial], Frieda, Carrie Mae [see memorial], Lillian, and Alvin W. [see memorial]. According to Pleiss family testimony, additional twins were mentioned, but there is no other proof.
Frederick Jr. operated a small grocery store at one time and in 1928-30, was a carpenter and fixed up a building on the corner of Druid Hill Ave. and Oxford St. for his father-in-law, Wilhelm D. Pleiss [see memorial], who had bought it.
Due to lack of burial funds, Frederick and Riecke were buried in separate cemeteries.
