The Willie, as he was known and his mother moved to Monticello in Drew County and lived with Mary Carter and her husband, Ashley McClure Bell.
Willie work as a clerk in Monticello until he died on the 21st of November 1892. He was laid to rest in Oakland Cemetery. He was just 32 years old.
