"Donie Dee Adams, the youngest child of Jeremiah Mitchell & Ann Hampton Adams, & who is the compiler of this record, was born in the year 1860, 3 miles south of Purdy, TN. She was of fair complexion, with brown hair; was a conscientious girl. At 12 yrs of age she gave her heart to God. She lived in Gadsden, TN, with her mother & two youngest brothers, after the death of her father, where she made many friends. After their dwelling was destroyed by fire there, she, with the family, moved to Milan, TN, where the 2 bros continued in the General Merchandise business. Here she met & was happily m. to Robert Balie Mitchum, Oct. 26, 1882, her age being 22 yrs & his 25. Mr. Mitchum has brown eyes & auburn hair, & is from a good family, of high principles, & a Christian gentleman, with unusally sound judgement. He succeeded as a merchant there for several years. Then they moved to Nashville, TN, where Mr. Mitchum was connected with the Merchants Delivery Company, & also the Cayce Transfer Company. They were known for their hospitality - especially did they entertain many preachers & workers in the vineyard of the Lord."
