Miller County Autogram Sentinel 7/8/1897 "After 44 years-Dr. G.W. Biggers, a successful physician and surgeon of La Grande Oregon, after an absence of 44 years, from this county, was in town Monday and visited his old home on the south side. He had been to New York City to attend medical lectures. Dr. Biggers was born on what is known as the Thos. Spearman farm, in Brushy Fork of Tavern Creek, in 1845. He went overland in 1853, with his parents to Oregon. His father, Creed T. Biggers, settled on the old place about 1841, and was a fine cabinet maker and undertaker, well known to many of our early settlers. He died in Oregon in 1877, aged 74 years. The doctor's mother died in 1894 nearly 80. He found the hills around the old farm, that were an open pasture of fine grass in 1853, now a dense forest. The old log house where he was born was almost unchanged, and is used as a residence by the Spearman's. The fine old spring is just as it was 44 years ago, with the same old log springhouse, now half a century old. The doctor was well pleased to find the place so little changed and recognized the place at once, though but 8years old when he left the old Missouri farm. The Doctor is interested in mining and the Gram is pleased to say has been reasonably successful."
