Julia Maria Coulter was the seventh of 11 children of Samuel Coulter & Maria Bash. At age 18, she married on July 14, 1881, to Allen Alpheus Crecelius (1855-1933), son of George Crecelius & Elizabeth Keller. Julia died at Conrad, Iowa, age 33, of pleurisy, leaving Allen with seven children aged 14 and under: Charlie, Johnny, Florence, Hazel, Clara, Lula, and Meta. An eighth child, Lee Roy Crecelius, had died on August 10, 1894, age three months. The second child, John Henry Crecelius, died November 9, 1898, age 14, and joined his mother and baby brother in Conrad Cemetery. The 1897 obelisk gravestone detailing Julia and the three boys has weathered until it is nearly illegible.

Allen married second on April 27, 1899, to his cousin Mary Alice Crecelius, daughter of Harrison Crecelius & Nancy Burris. They had four children: Marie, Earl, Howard, and Harold. Howard Franklin Crecelius, born January 11, 1905, died age 18 months, and is buried near his two brothers at Conrad. After Allen died in 1933, age 77, he was buried beside his first wife Julia at Conrad. His second wife Mary died January 3, 1944, age 77, and is buried at Redfield, South Dakota.
