Sioux K. Grigsby was the oldest of four children of one of the pioneers of Sioux Falls, Dakota Territory. Sioux was a lawyer by profession. Sioux came into politics at a young age, serving as a page at the 1883 South Dakota Constitutional Convention. During his lifetime, Sioux held offices as Assistant Attorney General of South Dakota, City Attorney of Sioux Falls, State Representative and State Senator of South Dakota, and Lieutenant Governor of South Dakota. Sioux was a Delegate from South Dakota to the 1952 Republican National Convention. Sioux was honored with the title of "Mr. Republican of South Dakota".

Sioux was married to Anna Gilchriest from 1917 until his death in 1968. They had two children. Previously, Sioux was married to Alice Josephine Tyler from 1899 until their divorce in 1912. Sioux and Alice had no children.
