FORMER WILTON MAN VICTIM OF ACCIDENT
A. I. Agnew Of Denver Dies As Result Of Injuries

Hurt in Automobile Accident Tuesday - Message Announcing Death Comes Without Warning.

A telegram announcing the death of A. I. Agnew of Denver, Colo., formerly a resident of Wilton, was received by his father, D. G. Agnew this morning, the intelligence coming as a terrific shock to the father and to friends here. Mr. Agnew was injured in an automobile accident last Tuesday, the details of which are not known here, and the injuries then received were the cause of his death.
A message from Denver last Tuesday told of the automobile accident and declared that Mr. Agnew had suffered three broken ribs, but was not seriously hurt. A later message received Wednesday, declared the former Wilton man was convalescing encouragingly and indicated his prompt recovery unless unforseen complications resulted.
Early this morning the message announcing his death reached here from Denver, with no warning of a turn for the worse having been received in the meantime.
Mr. Agnew was well known here before his departure for the west several years ago, and the unexpected news of his death came as a shock to the entire community. He was about 47 years of age and had been very successful as an optician in the western city where he had made his home. He is survived by his wife, his father, D. G. Agnew, of Wilton, one sister, Mrs. Harry Schafnit, of Moscow and one brother Frank of Omaha.
The body will be brought to Wilton for burial but the time or the arrangements for the funeral have not as yet been announced.

FUNERAL OF A. I. AGNEW HELD AT WILTON TODAY
Remains Of Former Resident Are Laid At Rest

Details of Auto Accident Which Resulted in his Death - Remains Arrived from Denver This Morning

Wilton, Iowa - The funeral of the late A. I. Agnew of Denver, who died last Thursday evening as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident the previous Tuesday was held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church here. The services at the church were conducted by Rev. M. E. Lumbar (sic), pastor of the church, while the local Masonic lodge was in charge of the services at the grave. Burial was made in Oakdale cemetery. The remains arrived from Denver this morning.
Accounts from Denver tell of the manner in which this former Wilton resident met his untimely death. Mr. Agnew, who was the general manager of the Columbian Optical company of Denver was fatally injured Tuesday when his seven passenger car collided with a livery rig while crossing the Twentieth Avenue viaduct. Agnew is declared to have been driving at a rapid rate of speed as he approaced the buggy. He turned to the right to pass the carriage when he discovered that there was not enough room between the buggy and the railing to pass. He then attempted (ea) check his machine and turned into the curb, but too late to avoid a collision with the buggy.
The carriage was demolished and the auto turned over, Agnew being pinioned beneath the steering wheel, suffering three broken ribs and internal injuries, the latter proving fatal. Alfred J. Fairbanks, the sales manager of the Columbian company and E. F. Hiltman, the third occupant of the auto, were bruised and cut by broken glass, while L. G. Booth of Denver and Miss Kate Byers of Oklahoma, who were in the buggy were seriously cut and bruised. Agnew was hurried to a Denver hospital where the physicians, after an examination, pronounced him seriously injured and gave little hope of his recovery.
