Norbert Bauer, 71, of 1224 Fourth St., Fairbury, NE died Dec. 29, 1986 in a Lincoln hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Rozella; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Carol Bauer of Fairbury; sister, Verneda Schidler of Lincoln.

Services will be at 10 AM, Friday, Jan. 2, at the American Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials can be given at the Church. Nukolls-Meyer Funeral Home, Service.

Norbert Henry Bauer, was born Oct. 28, 1915, at Reynolds, NE to Carl Henrick and Emma Sophia Huss Bauer, one of their six children. He died Dec. 19, 1986, at Lincoln, NE at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 1 day.

He lived his entire life in Jefferson County with exception of the time he spent in the Air Corps. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.

His schooling was in the Fairbury schools and he graduated with the class of 1934.

In Feb. 1941, he joined the Army Air Corps and served four years, seven months with about three years being spent in Guatemala and the Galapagos Islands. He was discharged Sept. 1, 1945, as a Technical Sergeant from the 736th Army Air Force Base Unit.

On Nov. 3, 1945, he married Rozella Portwood and to them was born one child.

He was active in numerous Community Organizations; 51 years Volunteer Fire Dept., 42 years V.F.W. and presently a member of the Color Guard, 41 years, American Legion of which he was a past Local Commander, 41 years with the Elks. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council.

After being discharged he worked two years as a paid Fireman, then was a linemen for the City for nine years and 24 years as a Chemist in the Light Plant. He retired Nov. 1, 19890.

Preceding him in death were his parents; infant twin brothers, Clarence and Lawrence, 1 year old brother, Bernard and sister, Lorene Greves.

Survivors include his wife, Rozella; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Carol Bauer; sister Vernida Schidler of Lioncoln; mother-in-law Rose Portwood of Fairbury; nieces and nephews.

Services were Jan. 2 at the American Lutheran Church with Pastor Ray Klug officiating. Special music by Marvin Engel and Elaine Klug. Pallbearers were Burdette Priefert, William Wrigley, Marvin Swett, Steve Kettlehut, Dennis Garton, Fred Holtz, Neal Frederick, and Fred Huss, Jr. Burial in the Fairbury Cemetery.
