Liberty was the son of Molly (nee Marsh) and Lemuel Humphreville, the youngest of ten children. Liberty's father served as an Ensign in the 2nd Regiment under Col. Thompson, from New Haven, Connecticut and is found on the List of Subaltins in Alarm List of May 24, 1777. Family lore is that the name, Liberty, was to honor the new country for which Lemuel had fought.
Liberty married Milly Marsh around 1810.
