Charles Lewis was the Town Marshal in Powell, Wyoming. He died in the line of duty at age 43. Marshal Lewis and Deputy D.M. Baker from the Park County Sheriff's Office were attempting to arrest an Escapee who had fled to his parents house. As the Officers approached the residence, shots rang out. The suspect shot and killed both Officers and two civilians who ran over to assist the fallen Officers. The suspect fled and tried to rob a Bank in town, killing one of the hostages. The suspect was cornered later by local townspeople, they shot and killed him. Marshal Lewis was a World War I. Veteran.
