CONOVER - Max Douglas Burns, 66, passed away June 18, 2009, at his residence. Max was born Aug. 6, 1942, in Catawba County, to the late George Richard and Minnie Buff Burns. He was a member of First Church of God and retired from Benco Steel.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Hall Burns; sons, Richard Burns, Tripp Burns and wife, Jamie [daughter of Faye Turner Smith], and Andy Burns, all of Hickory; granddaughters, Clara Burns, Haley Burns and Anna Burns, all of Hickory; grandson, Ben Burns of Hickory; and a brother, Jim Burns of Hickory.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 today, Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Hickory Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 120 Wall St., 19th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10005 or to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658. Hickory Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
