Lawrence Charles Taylor 1924 ~ 2007
HURRICANE - Our loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Lawrence Charles Taylor, 82, passed away Friday, June 15, 2007 at his home in Hurricane, Utah from causes incident to age. He was born November 20, 1924 in Laketown, Utah a son of Joseph Warren and Alley Vernon Johnson Taylor. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II, obtain-ing the rank of Captain. He served as a pilot in the European Theatre from 1943-1946. Lawrence obtained his Bachelor and Masters Degrees from Utah State Agricultural College. He married Maurine Nielsen June 2, 1944 in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death February 15, 1972. Lawrence then married Gloria Call Spencer May 26, 1972 in the Ogden LDS Temple. She preceded him in death October 10, 2005. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served honorably in many callings including stake president of the Brigham City Stake from 1962-1974. He also served in positions from high counselor to ward clerk. Lawrence was engaged in several business endeavors including management positions at Thiokol Chemical Corporation in Brigham City, Utah. He was an associate professor at Utah State University where he taught marketing and small business management. He also operated several small businesses including All-Grain Company, Tremonton, Utah, and Rifle Land and Cattle, Rifle, Colorado. For the last 20 years he served as an independent business consultant. Lawrence followed the local Utah sport teams. He enjoyed many rounds of golf with his family. He was an avid reader of the scriptures and followed current events. He stressed education and was an excellent teacher. He spent a lot of time enjoying his roses and writing poetry. Surviving are his 11 children, Zara Rae (Leon) Poulsen, Brigham City, UT, Lawrence C. Taylor, Jr., Sandy, UT, Randee Spencer (Orson) Cornia, Woodruff, UT, Kathleen Taylor, Salt Lake City, Scott (Terry) Spencer, Randolph, UT, Doran D. (Melissa) Taylor, Salt Lake City, UT, Vickie Spencer (Tom) Weston, Laketown, UT, Elliott N. (Melissa) Taylor, Salt Lake City, UT, Charles Robert Spencer, Ogden, UT, Cordell B. (Lenka) Taylor, Salt Lake City, UT, Bartley F. (Susan) Taylor, St. George, UT; daughter-in-law, Ginger Taylor, Sandy, UT; 391/2 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchil-dren. Also surviving are two brothers, James W. (Micky) Taylor, Hurricane, UT, Robert M. (Ladell) Taylor, Henderson, NV; one sister, Elaine (Dale) Hatch, Randolph, UT. He was also preceded in death by one son, Rex Floyd Taylor; one grandson, Rex Kyle Poulsen; one great-grandson, Zachary Daniel Packer; five brothers, Jay, Vernon, Elliott, Ellsworth, and Wallace Taylor; and one sister, Jean Taylor. The Taylor children want to thank Lawrence's brother, James, and wife, Micky; son, Bartley; daughter-in-law, Susan; the members of Hurricane 11th LDS Ward; and the health care professionals at the U of U - Dixie Dialysis Center for all their love and tender care. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2007, 11 a.m. at the Brigham City Stake Center, 650 Anderson Drive, Brigham City, Utah. Family will greet friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, UT and Friday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion and VFW Honor Guards.
