CARTHAGE - Funeral services for James Jahue Elliott, 81, of Carthage, will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Peek and Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Burial will follow at Murvaul Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home of Carthage. Mr. Elliott died Saturday, June 16, 2007, in Carthage. He was born Jan. 11, 1926, to Scott Harris and Allie Gray Elliott in Shelbyville, Texas. He grew up in Panola County and attended Beckville schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed throughout the Philippines. He married Gladys Ruth Ritter on Feb. 15, 1946. They celebrated over 61 years of marriage. He was a lifelong truck driver and also worked for the Panola County Road and Bridge Department. He was a member of Murvaul Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Elliott of Carthage; daughters, Sandra Jean Mitchell of Gary, Texas and Jane Jeffress of Carthage; brother, Scott Harris Elliott, Jr. of Carthage; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Chris Pruett, Todd Sawyer, Michael Mitchell, James Spriggs, Robert Earl Mason, Robert Gibbs, Sherman Capello and Ricky Johnson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Hawthorn Funeral Home
