Gladys Ruth Ritter Elliott was born March 1, 1930 in Gary, Texas, to Willie Gillespie and Nettie Lou Koonce Ritter. She was raised and completed schools in Gary. Ruth married James Jahue Elliott February 15, 1946 and they celebrated 61 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 2007. Mrs. Elliott was a loving homemaker to her family and worked many years in food service at Panola College. She was a longtime member of the Murvaul Missionary Baptist Church and later joined the First Baptist Church of Carthage. She is also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Louise Williams, Willie Mae Chadwick, Billie Dean Brooks, Olyene Johnson; half brother, Roy Miller; and half sister, Vinnie Arnold.
