Bonnie L. Means was born on December 17, 1914 to Asa Taylor and Maggie (nee Eddington) Taylor in Love County, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of three children. Her sister, Winnie Taylor Means, died October 9, 1987. Her brother, Archie Taylor, was killed in action in World War Two during the Battle of the Bulge.

Following the early death of her mother, she was raised by her grandparents, W.W. Taylor and Elizabeth (nee Schooling) Taylor of near Orr, Oklahoma. Bonnie attended school in Orr. She completed high school at Zanies, Oklahoma. She graduated valedictorian of her class.

On December 17, 1934, Bonnie married her sweetheart, Champ B. Means, then a high school teacher and a student at Southeastern Teachers College. Bonnie and Champ were married for 47 years. He died on January 25, 1981.

Two children were born of their union, Freddie Keith Means and Paul B. Means. The family lived in various places including Amarillo, Texas, Aurora, Colorado, and in Lompoc, El Monte and Puente, California. After their retirement, Bonnie and Champ returned to Oklahoma in 1975 and established a home in Madill. She maintained that residence for more than 25 years. In 2001 Bonnie went to live with her son Freddie and daughter-in-law, Y. Mitty Means. She died at Grace Living Center, in Southwest Oklahoma City on December 8, 2006.
