Ward Joseph Sheldon was born in 1874 in Berlin, MN to Porter and Caroline Hemingway Sheldon.
Ward came to Beaumont,TX in the early 1900's and from there to Electra in 1906. He married Jessie Brown June 30,1913...on the capitol steps at Pierre, SD. They had twin boys...Wichita & Thrall...named for two oil wells. Ward had struck oil in Electra. Jessie Sheldon died in December,1951. Ward died in 1953.
"When Ward was 16 years old he was hunting with a horse and buggy...some other boys were with him...and the gun fell off and hit him just below the elbow. So they amputated up above the elbow."
"He was an expert shot...in his house above the mantel was this huge moose head...he was a crack shot."
"Ward had a big Oakland car. He had promised that he would take his mother and his father and his sisters on a trip through Yellowstone...the first car that ever went through Yellowstone Park."
"Uncle Ward struck oil...he was in Galveston and worked in the oil fields...then he moved to Electra where they struck oil......he was very fortunate...he struck a gusher...he was very well to do after that."
