Son of Robert Stewart and Jeanette (Forsyte) Stewart, and grandson of Walter Stewart of Perthshire.

He may be related to James Stewart who came to Colrain,MA in 1742. But this is not certain.

He married, in Colerain, Co.Londonderry, Ireland about 1704, Elizabeth Clark. Thereis a question as to whether his wife Elizabeth who went to Colrain is a different Elizabeth, perhaps with maiden name Forsythe, than his wife Eliabeth prior to 1720.

He was known as "Charter John" and came to America with his wife Elizabeth in 1718, among the group which left Aghadowey with Rev.Mr.Boyd. He was a carpenter, and one of the original settlers of Londonderry,NH. He never did come to Colrain,MA, but his wife, and probably his mother, are buried there.

Children: Charles Stewart, Robert Stewart, James Stewart, John Stewart, Mary Stewart, Samuel Stewart, Joseph Stewart, and Margaret Stewart Aiken.
