CIVIL WAR VETERAN

"New Oxford Item" - Page 5, Thursday, June 27, 1907, New Oxford, Adams County, Pennsylvania

"Mr. Henry Weaver, an old resident of Mountpleasant township, died at his home near White Hall, on Monday, June 24, from cerebral hemmorrhage [sic], aged 70 years and 6 days. Mr. Weaver was stricken with paralysis about two years ago since which time he has been in almost helpless condition and confined to his bed the greater part of the time. He is survived by several children. Internment at Conewago Chapel this Thursday morning."

The son of Joseph & Susan (Bollen or Bolin) Weaver, in 1860 he was a lime burner presumably living in Union Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, although the 1860 census for that township does not exist. He stood 5' 11" tall and had sandy hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Adams County October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 6 as a private with Co. A, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in Gettysburg. He also enlisted in New Oxford, Adams County, August 29, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 3 as a private with Co. C, 202nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 3, 1865.

He married Caroline Strasbaugh and fathered Joseph (b. @1866), Reuben Emanuel (b. 09/23/68), Jacob (b. @1869), John J. (b. 02/28/70), and Edward Augustus (b. 01/06/72). In 1870-90, he lived in Mount Pleasant Township, Adams County, where he died at age 70-0-6 from "paralysis of lower extremities" with a "cerebral hemorrhage" listed as a contributing factor.
