Mr. Ostrander died peacefully Saturday (Aug. 4, 2007) at his home.
He was predeceased by a son, Lynde E. Jr. on Oct. 6, 1999; and a brother, Courtland on died Jan. 16, 1996.
He was born Feb. 13, 1920 in Pierrepont, the son of Everett John and Hazel Julia Fallon Ostrander. He attended Colton and Canton schools. He married Kathryn Louise Strate on May 25, 1943 at her parent's home in Crary Mills. Mr. and Mrs. Ostrander were married 61 years. She died July 21, 2004.
The couple owned and operated a dairy farm on the Howardville Road until it was sold due to illness in 1951. He was later employed by Putman and Hawley Construction Company in Potsdam, where he was involved with the St. Lawrence Seaway Project. In 1961 he owned and operated the Langdon Farm at Langdon's Corners until he retired. After retirement he worked at Canton Central School for approximately 10 years.
Mr. Ostrander was an active member of the Crary Mills Presbyterian Church where he served on the church session, was a Canton School Board member; member of the Crary Mills Grange and leader in the 4H Club "Husky workers".
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family, and friends.
After retirement he enjoyed trucking cattle and attending the DeKalb Cattle Auctions with his brother Court. He was also known for his skill at producing maple syrup in the traditional manner.
