Son of James Trumbull & Jane Watson.
(Note: the brief listing for Joseph in the bio of his father (see photo) from the Genealogies & Biographies of Ancient Windsor by Henry Reed Stiles (1893) is sparse & contains errors & omissions).

He headed west to Illinois about 1840, as did his brothers James Watson & Asaph Marsh Trumbull. James settled in Kane County while Asaph & Joseph settled in Ogle County.

Joseph (who sometimes appears in records as J E) married Abigail Case on March 1st, 1840, Ogle Co., IL & the couple had two children there Guy & Clarissa, before moving to Van Buren County, Michigan where their last three were born: Mercia Mary, Herman A & Joseph Edward (born late, died young).

After his wife's death in 1879 Joseph went to Pipestone, Minnesota. His newly married youngest son Herman & wife Clara with their daughter Jennie joined him there but daughter-in-law Clara died shortly thereafter: she's buried in this cemetery.

Of his children:
1). Guy Eugene (Jan 1841- 7 Aug 1862) died in the Civil War
2). Clarissa "Clara" (George Bennett) Andrews (6 Sept 1842 IL- ? Mar 1906?, last record found was the 1900 Raton, Colfax Co., NM census, not on FAG. Mother of five (3 still living by 1900), she was the second wife of George Andrews (1838-1897). She took in lodgers in New Mexico & the 1900 census listed her as widowed.
3). Mercia Malinda "Mert" (9'Sept 1847 Lawrence, MI- 14 Feb 1934 CA, #11993966) m. #1 Walter Odell & #2 Henry L Morris (1854 VT- 1920 LA, CA, not on FAG). The 1920 LA, CA census (taken early on January 9th) shows Mercia M & Henry L Morris with her brother Herman Trumbull (both who died that same year). After Henry's death Mert took in boarders.
4). Herman Ernest (4 April 1858 Lawrence, MI- 21 Feb 1920 LA, CA, not on FAG) m. Clara Preston (1859 IL- 1887 MN, #47680887), with whom he had one daughter: Jennie Eliza (Douglas) Armour (16 Sept 1885 Stillman Valley, Ogle Co., IL- 8 July 1936 Scott, Ogle Co., IL, #62868014). Jennie was very young when her mother died so she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Hastings & Eliza J Preston, in Illinois.
5). Joseph Edward, Jr. (3 Apr 1854- 3 Oct 1855)
Son of James Trumbull & Jane Watson.
