Sherman married his sweetheart, Marlene Call, in the Salt Lake Temple on November 14, 1951. They built their home in Alpine and began buying land that they would farm for the next 60 years. He loved to grow things and he loved to be so close to the beautiful mountains. He also worked at Geneva Steel for 34 years.
Sherman was a wonderful father and grandfather. His children remember working with him on the farm and taking many memorable family vacations. He loved to load everyone up in the car and find the most isolated dirt roads in the middle of nowhere to explore. Later, he loved taking his grandchildren on rides in the dune-buggy in the hills of Alpine.
He made many friends while working on their Christmas tree farm and at Farmer’s Market. He always had a smile and a compliment for everyone and when asked how he was doing, he always answered “Better than I deserve!” He could often be seen riding around town on his beloved bicycle, delivering fruit and vegetables to neighbors and friends.
He served in many capacities in the church, but he especially loved serving as the High Priest Group Leader and as a temple worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. He had a strong testimony of the gospel and lived what he believed. He was generous with those around him and loved to serve and help others.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, their five children: Douglas J (Marsha), Roger E. (Rachel), Jeffrey S. (Lori), Janine (Arthur) Smith, and Karla (Mark)Weisenburger, 15 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and siblings Luella Day, Marlow (Elizabeth) Bennett, Janice (Monte) Palmer, Philip (Marilee) Bennett, Brenda (Royce) Jorgensen, and Marilyn (Gary) Chadwick. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lola, brother Brent, and granddaughters Angela Bennett, Alaina Bennett, and Melissa Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 17, 2017
