Edward is the son of Calvin Backus and Sophia L Russell. Edward married Elhira 'Ella' McIntyre about 1871. They had 8 children. Edward and Ella filed for separation about 1910 in Binghamton, New York. According to the New York Death Index, Ella died 11 Dec 1932 in Norwich, New York. I have yet to find where Ella is buried.
