Victor J. Vannier, Jr., 20 years of age, of 51 Lansing Street, Cohoes, was drowned In the Hudson River opposite 112th Street, Lansingburgh, at 6:15 o'clock in the morning. The young man was employed by Zoel Rous, ice dealer, and was engaged in scraping ice on the river when he slipped and fell into the stream. His father, Victor J. Vannier, Sr., and brother, William Vannier, as well as other men who were working nearby, ran to his assistance, but before pike poles or ropes could be secured, young Vannier, apparently seized with cramps, vanished below the surface of the water. Immediately after the drowning boats were launched into the open space and grappling irons were used in a fruitless effort to recover the body, and it is considered probable that it was carried under the ice. Vannier leaves a widow and one child.

Victor and his brother and father were employed by the Arctic Ice Company to remove snow from the ice in preparation for harvesting. Neither the father nor brother were able to render any assistance.

Rev. Charles Dolan, of Leeds, MA, is in Cohoes for the funeral of his cousin, Victor Vannier, Jr., who was drowned in the Hudson River.
Father Dolan was born in Cohoes and resided here in his youth.

Limited letters of administration in the estate of Victor Vannier, Jr., were issued to his father-in-law, Thomas St. Martin, of Cohoes, who in father and guardian ad litem for the 17-year-old widow, Velieta Vannier. The letters include a right of action against Zoel Roux, for alleged negligence in the accident in which Vannier was killed. A nine mouths' old daughter, Theresa Vannier, will share in the estate.

At the time of the accident, his wife did not know she was carrying a second child so the newspapers only reported the one daughter surviving. In October of that year, a daughter, Beatrice was born.
