Funeral services for Gladys Lucille Toney, 94, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, are 2:00 pm Friday February 26, 2016, at Green Country Funeral Home. Officiating will be Reverend Buddy Hunt and Reverend Don Varble. Interment will follow in Park Hill Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Gladys Lucille Toney was born on September 25, 1921, in Fanshawe, Oklahoma to John and Molly (Bowerman) Shipman. She passed away peacefully on February 24, 2016, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

Gladys was raised on a farm through the depression years and her daily routine consisted of farm activities such as churning butter, tending to livestock and gardening.

She met “PaPa” Al Wilemon in college. Following marriage, she raised her family. Gladys would later go to work managing a Christian book store.

After Al’s passing, Gladys would remarry to Gene Toney and were married for ten years until his death.

Gladys enjoyed playing bridge, and being active.

Her love for God was first in her life, and was a Sunday School teacher for many, many decades.

Gladys was preceded in death by her first husband Al Wilemon after 53 years of marriage; her second husband, Gene Toney; two daughters, Alverna Adams and Carol Ann Sewell; son-in-law, Stan Adams; and grandson, Brad Martin.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Leigh Ann Lawson and Schandra Bates; two great grandchildren, Bradley Scott and McKynzie Bates; sister-in-law, Kay Wilemon; three nephews, Bobby Keith Lundy and Shawn, Steve Wilemon, and Ronnie Wilemon; and many other dear friends.
