A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Family Church, Oglesby. The Rev. Gary Blake will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery, La Salle, with full military honors by the La Salle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group.
Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby, is in charge of arrangements.
John was born June 5, 1914, in Oglesby to Alfonso and Frances (Benedetti [sic: Biancotti]) Biolchini. He married Helen Kikel in 1942. She died Dec. 8, 1994. He married Emma Ricci on Dec. 30, 1995, in Holy Family Church.
John was a bricklayer for Marquette Cement Co. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Oglesby American Legion, VFW and Oglesby Elks. He enjoyed bowling and participated in league bowling until the age of 97. He was an avid Cubs fan.
He served as a tank mechanic with the U.S. Army during World War II and landed at Normandy on D-Day.
He is survived by his wife, Emma of Oglesby; a daughter, Mary (Dave) Kohr of Oglesby; six grandchildren, Karen (Rich) Rivara, Jeff (Alyssa) Biolchini, Chad (Cathy) Groleau, Andy (Brandy) Groleau, Chris (Kathy) Kohr and Dusty (Mandi) Kohr; 10 great-grandchildren, Collin, Mack, Hudson, Bobby, Tatianna, John, Luca, Anna, Julianna and Jonathan; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Biolchini of Peru.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; a son, John, on Sept. 27, 1999; and one brother [Joseph] and two sisters [Louise Ponti and Angeline Deutsch].
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Illinois Veterans Home at La Salle or Oglesby American Legion.
