Violet Jessie Gage Bissell, age 95 formerly of Maxwell, passed away Friday October 23, 2015 at Great Plains Health. Violet was born on October 11, 1920 north of North Platte to Benjamin Clinton and Beulah A. (Reynolds) Gosnell. When she was a small girl her family moved to a farm south of Maxwell on the Brady Island. She graduated from Maxwell High School with the class of 1939 and married LeRoy Gage May 21, 1941 in Lexington. To this union 4 children were born, Kenneth LeRoy, Shirley Mae, Donna Rae and Robert Lee. She and LeRoy moved to Maxwell in 1973 where she cooked at various restaurants in and around the North Platte and Maxwell area. She also worked at Goodall’s in Ogallala and Goshen Rubber in Gothenburg. She retired in 1982 due to LeRoy’s poor health. LeRoy passed away July 28, 1983. She married Delmar Bissell on April 3, 1988 in Maxwell. They moved to Premier Estates in North Platte in December of 2009 and Delmar passed away February 7, 2012. Violet had a quick wit and was always ready with a quick comeback. She was an excellent cook and nothing gave her more joy than having her family around and serving them a homemade meal, especially beef and noodles. She was constantly on the go and loved to camp and fish. She gave her life to the Lord at a young age and followed Him the rest of her life. Violet is survived by her children Kenneth (Ruth) Gage of Maxwell, Shirley (Leo) Sylvan of Brady, Donna (Everett) Hunt of Hastings and Robert (Sonia) Gage of Ben Wheeler, TX; step children Carolyn (Steve) Buss of Cozad, Lois (Rod) Underwood of Lexington, Ron Bissell of Bellevue, Lesia (Jim) Calvin of Gurley, NE, Pam Graves of North Carolina, Kenny Bissell of Cozad; sister-in-law June Gosnell of North Platte; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandkids; 8 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands LeRoy Gage and Delmar Bissell; siblings Mildred (Albert) Sukraw, Alfred (Maria) Gosnell, Bernard Gosnell, Leslie (Grace) Gosnell; and great-great- granddaughter Gretchen Furrow.. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 31, 2015 at the Maxwell Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Lyzenga officiating. Burial will follow at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
