Services for Dolores Chance Means will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at Maxwell Avenue Church of Christ with Ron Benedict and Dr. Virgil Trout officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The oldest of four children, Dolores was born on March 27, 1931, to Boyet and Ruth McKee Chance in Hewitt, Okla. She died on Aug. 2, 2006, at her home after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by; her parents and a brother, Gordon.

Dolores attended school at Zaneis and graduated as valedictorian from Wilson High School. She and J.B. Means were married on Dec. 20, 1948. She worked beside him in their business, Electric Motor Service, in Ardmore for 43 years. She was also a homemaker and loving wife and mother. She was a member of Maxwell Avenue Church of Christ.

Dolores dedicated her life to her family, her husband, raising three children and to loving her grandchildren. She valued education and was most proud of the fact that her three children, and several grandchildren, have graduated from college. He youngest grandson enters OSU this fall.

She was especially close to her paternal grandmother, Ma Chance, who encouraged and inspired her to be her best. In turn, Gran-Gran always challenged, inspired and expected her children and grandchildren to be their best, whether in school, sports or day to day life and work. She loved to bake, sew, crochet and do crafts. Each day was a "good day" as long as she could produce something -- a chocolate pie or a baby blanket or a meal for 20 people.

Dolores is survived by her best friend and the love of her life, J.B., her devoted husband of nearly 58 years, of the home; a daughter, Linda Smith and son-in-law, David, and son, Ronnie and daughter-in-law, Linda, Ardmore; son, Steve, Houston; grandchildren, Rusty Smith and wife, Toni, Muskogee, Drew Smith and wife, Meredith, Oklahoma City, Sarah Marriott and husband, Anthony, Indianapolis, Mary Means, Stillwater, Marshall Means, Ardmore, Aaron Means and Nicholas Means; a great-grandson, Grayson Smith, Muskogee; her brother, Jim Chance and wife, Leah, Hurst, Texas; sister, Carolyn Johnson and husband, Clarence, Gainesville, Texas; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and J.B.'s brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Bearers will be Brian Chance, Curtis Johnson, Gary Chance, Victor Ordonez, Donnie Calloway and Carroll Lawson; Grandchildren will be honorary bearers.

The family would like to thank Cross Timbers Hospice and especially Nancy, Dorothy and Judy for their loving care and assistance.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Griffin Funeral Home.
