The son of John & Jane E. (Gribble) Eppleman, in 1860 he was a carpenter living with his family in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 5" tall and had brown hair and brown eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Bendersville, Adams County, August 12, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 22 as a private with Co. G, 138th Pennsylvania Infantry, but was killed in action at the battle of Payne's Farm.

A photo researcher has reported being unable to locate a tombstone.
