Mrs. Gavlak was born in Whiteside on April 17, 1914, the daughter of the late Albert and Catherine (Jaskowak) Gmerek.
On May 12, 1938 in the former St. Barbara's Catholic Church, Houtzdale she married Stephen V. Gavlak. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1989.
She was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church Houtzdale, PA.
She was co operator, with her husband, of the former Gavlak Grocery Store in Whiteside from 1963 to 1976.
She was a member of the Christ The King Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of Americas St. Victoria's Court #646, Houtzdale.
She is survived by two sons Richard Gavlak and his wife Ruth of Crofton, MD., Edward Gavlak and his wife Helen of Cincinnati, OH, four granddaughters; Angelique Davis, Chantale Soubier, Nicole Babb and Erika Stuffleben and ten great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two daughters, Delores and Stephenan and an infant son. Five brothers, Leonard, Thomas, Joseph, Kostusk and Emilion. Two sisters, Vanda and Agnes.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006 from 9-10:30 am at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. 2550 Union St. Ramey, PA 16671. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday in the funeral home with Fr. Ronald Gmerek officiating followed by the recitation of the Rosary by the Christ The King Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas St. Victoria's Court. # 646 at 3:30 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at Christ The King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, PA, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 4, with Fr. Ronald E. Gmerek as the celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery Brisbin, PA.
