Maurice Berger, 84, of the Rhode Island Veterans Home, a former pharmacist, died yesterday at the home.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Kopel and Nelly (Meyer) Berger, he lived in the city until moving to the home in 1965.

Mr. Berger was a graduate of the former Rhode Island College of Pharmacy in 1924. He owned the former Minden Pharmacy, Ives Street, Providence, until 1942 when he enlisted in the Navy. He served in the South Pacific Theater as a pharmacist's mate first class. He was a member of the Touro Fraternal Association, and Overseas Lodge 40, F & AM. He was associated with several drugstores as a pharmacist before retiring in 1965, due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Springfield, Mo.

He leaves four nephews, William I. and Leonard Matzner, both of Providence, Henry J. Matzner and John Berger, both of Cranston, and five nieces, Stella Salk, Jean Bliss, Ida Millman, all of Providence, Elaine Cohen of East Providence and Hilda Ratner in Tennessee.

A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Lincoln Park Cemetery, Warwick.
