A Mass for Kevin A. Apuzzio, 21, a lifelong resident of Union, will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in St. Michaels Church, 1212 Kelly St., Union.

Arrangements are by the Galante Funeral Home, Union.

Mr. Apuzzio, a volunteer firefighter with the East Franklin Township Fire Department for three years, died Tuesday in the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, from injuries suffered while attempting to rescue Betty Scott from her burning Whittier Avenue home in the Somerset section of Franklin Township.

A major in criminal justice, he was a senior at Rutgers Universitys Livingston campus in New Brunswick and lived in an off-campus New Brunswick apartment. For the past four years, Mr. Apuzzio was an emergency medical technician for the Rutgers University Emergency Squad.

He was also a volunteer emergency medical technician for the Union Emergency Medical Unit for five years.

Mr. Apuzzio was a 2002 graduate of Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains.

Born in Elizabeth, he leaves his parents, Joseph and Marili Apuzzio, and a sister, Leila.
