A registered nurse, she enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps in 1943 and served 19 months on Luzon, in North Guinea and the Southern Philippine Islands. Mrs. Garland had also worked as a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration hospital at Hines.
She was born at Kellar Station, Peoria County, on April 18, 1894, a daughter of Charles H. and Mary J. Drake Humason. She married Albert Garland at Henderson, Ky., June 27, 1916. He died in Peoria Aug. 22, 1922.
Mrs. Garland was a resident of Brimfield for 18 years.
Surviving are four nieces, Mrs. Thelma Stenger of Edwards, Mrs. Vesta Appleby of Clearwater, Fla.; Mrs. Cleo Harlan of Springfield and Mrs. Hazel Frisbie of Emmetsburg, Iowa.
Two sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
