JAMES LUTHER BENNETT, JR., 64, of 33 East Lincoln Ave., died Wednesday at Washington County Hospital. Born in Hagerstown, he was a son of James Luther and Annie Elizabeth Grubbs Bennett Sr.

He had been employed at several local schools and was last employed as head custodian at Hickory Elementary School. He was a member of the Protestant faith. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army, and was a member of Halfway Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Mae Washington Renner Bennett; daughters, Donna M. Reid, Halfway; and Jamie Lee Gearhart, Smithsburg; sisters, Virginia Keedy, Miami, Fl.; Ella Keedy and Madeline O'Connor, both of Hagerstown; Jane Hershberger, Olney; and Betty Leather, Williamsport; and a brother, Raymond Bennett, Hagerstown.

Services were held at the Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
