Cellie and her twin Nellie were born in Kentucky where their family lived, near others in their extended southern Indiana family, while her father served in the Civil War. Her parents had lived a few years in Iowa prior to that war. After the war, they moved to DeKalb County, Missouri, near Union Star.

Cellie married Samuel Heltzell [1861- ] in 1885; they lived in Saint Joseph and had five children. She married Florella M. Zink [1862- ] June 2, 1920, at King City, Gentry County, Missouri. By 1930, they were farming in Colorado, living next to her brother James Clark Heath and his family.
