Manuel served as a Private First Class, 711th Signal Aircraft Wing Company, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Grant County, New Mexico prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 4, 1942 at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, with dependents.

Manuel died in the "Line Of Duty" when the C-47A "Sure Skin" (#42-23860), on which he was a passenger, apparently caught fire and exploded for an unknown reason and crashed in the San Pedro Bay close to Leyte during bad weather.

This crash occurred 4 days after World War II had ended.

The entire crew of 4 and all 26 passengers perished on this flight.
