Lela Louise "Aunt Lela" Adair, 93, died Sunday, June 8, 2014 at White Oak Estates. She was the daughter of the late George B. and Leila Ruth (Dobbins) Adair.
Aunt Lela worked at Converse Mill, Spartanburg Herald Journal, Connie Maxwell Children's Home, Sperry and Hutchinson Green Stamp Store where she was the manager, and the Senior Center of Spartanburg County.
She was a former member of Converse Baptist Church; a long-time member of Ben Avon Baptist Church where she served as W.M.U. director, worked in the nursery for many years, and was a Sunday School teacher of the Fidelis Class. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ora Chapter 153 where she and her father served simultaneously, Lela as Worthy Matron and her father as Worthy Patron.
Survivors include a sister, Nelleen Adair Thackston; two sisters-in-law, Joan B. Adair and Shirley B. Tate; and was "Aunt Lela" to ten nieces and nephews, fifteen great nieces and nephews, and three great-great nieces.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Marion L. "Mike" Adair, Maynard E. "Mike" Adair, and William B. "Bill" Adair.
Lela was the kind of Aunt every child should have. She gave of herself to every child in the family and in the church family.
The family received friends 10:00-11:00 AM, Thursday, June 11, 2014 at Bobo Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services were 11:00 AM officiated by Rev. Dr. John Adair, Rev. Bill Adair, and Chaplain Cindy Adair Inman. Burial at Sunset Memorial Park was private.
