THELMA BATES ADA-Services for Thelma Janie Bates, 91, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the New Life Pentecostal Church in Ada, Rev. Bill Daniels and William Arrington will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mrs. Bates died Monday, May 12, 2014 at her home. She was born February 24, 1923 at Durant, Oklahoma to Thomas Dewey and Minnie Lee Owens Russell. She attended Caddo School.
She married Claud Raymond Bates on September 30, 1939 in Durant. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1988. Mrs. Bates was a homemaker and a member of the New Life Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her children, M. D. Bates of Ada, Gertrude Taylor of Denison, TX, Claud Bates and Bobby Joe Bates, both of Durant, Judith Ann Taylor of Denison, TX, and Judith Kay Jones of Ada; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claud Bates; a son, Ronnie Dale Bates; and a granddaughter, Betty N. Ragsdale. Bearers will be Anthony Pelts, Lynn Pelts, Timothy Bates, David Jones, Dustin Taylor and Ricky Bates. Honorary bearers will be Troy Cox, Jonathan Woods, Dakota Pelts, Matthew Dorrsett and Taylor Dorrsett.
