HUGHES, Howard Lester was born January 19, 1911 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois the son of Frank Lester Hughes and Elva Mae Walker. He attended the Naperville Schools, and then the University of Illinois. He married Anita Engelsman August 26, 1933 in Chicago. He was employed first in the hotel industry for the Sherman Hotel as secretary and auditor. In 1954 he built the Howard Hughes Motor Hotel in Greenfield, Indiana, which he operated until his retirement in 1973 and was a Past President of the Indiana Hotel Association. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army. He was married to Louise Fitch at the time of his death. He was raised a Master Mason October 4, 1932. He died August 17, 1988 in Indianapolis, Marion County, and was buried in the Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis.
