In Memory of Edna Latrice (Cottrell) Polk-Young

Edna Latrice (Cottrell) Young passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, in Plano, Texas.

She was born Jan. 11, 1916, in Wanette, Oklahoma. Edna was the youngest and last surviving of eight children born to Oklahoma Pioneers, Owen and Eva Cottrell. She graduated from Wanette High School and Texas Christian University.

She lived in Shawnee for many years. Edna moved to Plano nine years ago where her two daughters were privileged to take care of her after she suffered a stroke. Perhaps her best "career" was after she retired, becoming a tireless volunteer for many agencies in Shawnee including Green Thumb and Operation Christmas. Edna was named Oklahoma Volunteer of the Year and McCall's Angel of Change.

She was preceded in death by her 1st husband Lester Ray Polk in 1962 and 2nd husband Leslie E. Young in 1985 and two granddaughters, Jennifer Velasquez and Lisa Austin Hargrove.

She is survived by her twin daughters, Jackie Velasquez and husband, Stephen, and Jeanie Austin and husband, Robert; son, Kevin Polk and his wife, Mary Alyce; grandchildren, Stephanie Velasquez and Brendan, Mary Eleanor and Elizabeth Polk; and great-grandchildren, Neil and Katherine Hargrove. We love you, Mom, Jackie & Jeanie
