Stanley Vergil Hall was the son of Robert Fine Hall and Bertha Jane Campbell. The Halls lived on a farm in Dunklin County, Missouri. When Stanley was born in October of 1899, they had a two-year-old daughter Clara. There is some evidence that another child might have been born and died in 1896.
A neighbor, a Mr. Boughman, had gone to Texas and had written back to his friends in Missouri that there was plenty of cheap land where he was in Texas. So, in 1900 several families in Dunklin County, including Robert Hall and his brother William Hall, decided to make the move to Texas.
Stanley was an infant and his mother was gravely concerned about his being able to make that trip safely. No doubt the death of an infant a few years earlier compounded her fears. As a result, Robert’s brother and other friends and neighbors making that trip took the Hall family wagon, their household goods and livestock and joined a wagon train departing from Joplin, Missouri and bound for Texas. The Hall family made the trip by passenger train.
The Halls settled on a farm near the community known today as Belott in Houston County. More children were born into the family in Texas: Lela Maude Hall in 1902; Nellie Houston Hall in 1903, Jewel Estes Hall in 1905; Elvis Gentry Hall in 1910 and Ruby Lee Hall in 1914.
When Stanley was 18 years old he registered for the World War I draft. At that time, September 12, 1918, he was residing in Crockett, Texas, and was employed as a stenographer for the Houston County Oil Mill. Stanley attended North Texas State Normal College in Denton, Texas. He is listed as a junior in the 1919 yearbook. When the U.S. Census was recorded in 1920 Stanley was still employed at the oil mill, as a bookkeeper, and was boarding with a Mr. and Mrs. Dorman in Crockett.
Stanley married Mary Allee, daughter of Stephen and Birdie Allee of Crockett. In 1940 Stanley and Mary were residing in Crockett where Stanley was employed as a deputy tax collector. In 1948 they was living in Houston, Texas. Stanley was employed with the U. S. government. Still in Houston in 1958, Stanley was working as a teller at the South Main State Bank.
Mary Allee Hall passed away in 1962. In 1978, Stanley married Bonnie Barclay Kerr in Harris County, Texas. Bonnie passed away in 1998. Stanley died in 2001 in Houston, Texas, He was 101 years old. His place of burial is unknown to this writer.
The details concerning the family’s move to Texas were taken from a letter written by Stanley’s sister Clara Hall Fuller to her daughter in 1995.
