Richard Revere (Doc) Wentland. 16 year resident of Victorville, apparently took his own life early Wednesday morning at Palmdale. He would have been 48 on July 18.

Sheriff L.T. G.S. Walsh said his wife, Ruth C. Wentland, heard a shot at 2:20 a.m. and found her husband's body behind the wheel of his car, a .38 caliber police special revolver between his knees. A slug had passed through the head and a auto window.
He had most recently been a resident of 15123 Mojave Dr. Victorville.

He had been a bartender for a number of years in the area and had worked part time at a camera shop. A five year member of BPOE, Lodge 1877, He was Elks secretary 1957-58. He severed as publicity director for the San Bernardino county fair in 1958. He had also done free-lance photography.

Wentland, a native of Michigan, had majored in medicine In undergraduate years. He had lettered in football before coming to Los Angeles 22 years ago. For a time, he worked as a ship-fitter before coming to Victorville to homestead property.
Survivors Include his stepson, Robert Wentland; two other children, residents of the East; and a sister, Bonnie Wentland of Detroit, Mich. Funeral services will be held at II a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of the Valley, Palmdale.
