Hazleton Plain Speaker, Friday, June 23, 1961:
Mrs. Susan McBrairty, 1115 Burton street, Freeland, died at the State Hospital at 2:25 p.m. yesterday after a short illness. She was born in Freeland, the daughter of the late Patrick and Amanda (Kugler) Carey, and resided there all her life. She was a member of St. Ann's R.C. Church.

Her husband, Patrick McBrairty, died on April 24, 1955. Surviving are two daughter, Elizabeth, wife of Rocco Bellezza, Margaret, wife of Peter Cepin, both of Freeland; 5 grandchildren; a brother, James Carey, Freeland; and two sisters, Margaret Carey, former Freeland school teacher, and Mrs. Elizabeth DeBlass, Hazleton. Seven nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral will be held from the residence on Monday at 9 a.m. A requiem high mass will be offered in St. Ann's Church at 9:30 o'clock. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from tomorrow afternoon until time of the funeral.
