Everette M. Venable, 88, of Lafayette, passed away peacefully in his home at 11:50 AM on Sunday, February 16, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He will be sadly missed by his family and all that knew him. Born June 10, 1925, in Tazewell, TN, he was the son of the late Tom and Lucy (Epperson) Venable. Everette came to the Greater Lafayette at the age of six and went on to honorably serve in the United States Army for four years during WWII in the European Theatre. His marriage was on February 1, 1947 in West Lafayette to Thelma R. Dowell and she survives.

Following his discharge from the service, Everette worked at the former Brown Rubber Plant in Lafayette and then for a brief time at Ross Gear Division of TRW. Then for over twenty years, he worked at the former Verplank Concrete and then V-Block Concrete as a driver, retiring in 1985. Everette was a member of Weaver Chapel United Methodist Church and he enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens and he also enjoyed woodworking. But more importantly, he valued the time he spent with his family and friends.

Also surviving are two daughters, Joyce Flynn and Janet Halsema (husband, Jackie), both of Lafayette, five grandchildren, Regina Vaughn, Wesley Flynn, Rissa Halsema, Andrea (Tom) Lawson, and Angela (Luke) Pickett, ten great-grandchildren, Renea (Tyler) Rosenbarger, Rebecca (Adam) Jones, Courtney and Ben Flynn, Trevor, Tristan, and Breann Warren, Evan and Jenna Lawson, and Allison and Charlie Pickett. Everette was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Oral Flynn, and two brothers, Hubert and Tommy Venable. Visitation 5-8 PM Wednesday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Services 1:30 PM Thursday in Hippensteel Chapel with Pastor Gilbert Kerrigan officiating. Burial to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
