Ward Funeral Here Saturday

Rt. Rev. H.R. Ragg, Anglican Bishop of Calgary, will conduct funeral services Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Pro-Cathedral Church of the Redeemer for the Rt. Hon. W. Dudley Ward, P.C., who died Tuesday morning in the Holy Cross hospital.

Mr. Ward was a prominent British Parliamentarian member from 1906 to 1922. He was a member of Lloyd George's goverment in the First Great War. In 1902 he became treasurer of the King's household, which position he held for ten years, and from 1917-1922 was vice-chamberlain for King George V. He was a prominent sportsman, and was one of Cambridge's leading oarsmen. He had lived at the Ranchmen's club in Calgary for many years, but made periodic trips to England.

Married to Winifred May "Freda" Birkin in 1913, and divorced in 1931. Freda was the daughter of Colonel Charles Wilfred Birkin. William and Freda had two children; Penelope Ann Rachel Dudley Ward (1914-1982) and Claire Angela Louise Dudley Ward (1916-1999).

William and Freda were divorced in 1931, and Freda remarried to Pedro Jose Isidro Manuel Ricardo Mones, Marques de Casa Maury in 1937. She passed away March 16, 1983.
