Feb 15, 1958 - Carroll Daily Times - Mrs. Elisabeth Schechinger, 93, mother of Henry and Vitus Schechinger of Carroll, passed away at 10 p.m. Friday in the Bishop Drumm home at Des Moines where she had lived for the past three and a half years.
Solemn requiem mass will be celebrated in SS. Peter and Paul Church here at 10:30 a.m. Monday by her grandsons the Revs. Hilary and Cornelius Gaul of Des Moines. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the Twit Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Saturday. The rosary will be prayed at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Saturday and by the Rosary and Altar Society of SS. Peter and Paul parish at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Mrs. Schechinger was the former Elisabeth Blum and was born February 12, 1865 at Fond-Du-Lac, Wis. She had just passed her 93rd birthday. Her family later settled in Westphalia, Iowa, where she was married to George Schechinger on September 25, 1885. The couple came to Carroll County in 1908 and farmed west of Carroll until they retired and moved to the city of Carroll in 1921.
Surviving children in addition to Henry and Vitus are Mrs. Peter Gaul (Elisabeth) of Earling and Mrs. Eugene Storrs (Josephine) of Des Moines. Also surviving are 38 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and one brother John Blum of Manning.
Mrs. Schechinger was preceded in death by her parents, seven children, five brothers, and three sisters. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church and the Rosary and Altar Society.
