Schechinger, Businessman Here, Is Dead
Henry Schechinger, 63, owner of Scheck's Plumbing & Heating, 216 West Fifth Street, died at 1:30 Friday afternoon at St Anthony Hospital, where he had been admitted February 13 after a fall on the ice. He had been in ill health several years.
Solemn requiem mass will be offered at 9:30 am Tuesday at SS Peter and Paul's Church, with the Rt Rev Msgr Frank H Greteman as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt Olivet Cemetery.
Friends may call after 7 pm Sunday at the Twit Funeral Home, where the body is resting until the time of the rites.
The rosary will be recited at 8 pm Sunday; the Moose Memorial service will be given at 8:30 pm Sunday; the elks Memorial service will be held at 7:30 pm Monday and the rosary will be led by Msgr Greteman at 8 pm Monday.
Mr Schechinger was born March 26, 1895, at Westphalia, Shelby County, Iowa. In 1908, he came with his parents, George and Elizabeth Blum Schechinger, to Carroll. They located on the farm just west of Carroll where Mr Schechinger's son, Leonard, lives now.
Mr Schechinger farmed there until March, 1939, when he moved into Carroll and opened his hardware and plumbing business.
He was married to Adelaide Kasperbauer Schechinger Nov 27, 1917, at Holy Angels Church in Roselle, with the Rev John H Gehling officiating. Mrs Schechinger died August 3, 1940.
Surviving Mr Schechinger are five daughters and two sons: Mrs Al (Hildegarde) Pendergrass, Edwards, Calif; Leonard Schechinger, Route 3, Carroll; Mrs Jack (Helen) Heiman, Ashton; Mrs Edward (Betty) Hochl and Mrs Arvid (Joan) Reiman, Carroll; Mrs Don (Marian) Nehrenberg, Torrance, Calif, and Paul Schechinger, Carroll; 28 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Peter (Elizabeth) Gaul, Earling, and Mrs Eugene (Josephine) Storrs, Des Moines, and one brother, Vitus Schechinger, Carroll.
Two sons are deceased, William, April 20, 1933, and Stanley in infancy. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine, Mary and Grace, and four brothers, Martin, Joe, Peter and Isidore.
Mrs Schechinger attended SS Peter and Paul's School here.
He had farmed for 22 years and operated his hardware and plumbing business for 20 years.
He was a member of SS Peter and Paul's Church and the Elks and Moose lodges.
As a hobby, Mr Schechinger turned to drumming. He had played in A C Wegner's dance orchestra in 1916 and 1917 and with other groups since that time.
