Lived in TOVEY, IL - He was 73, died at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center Sangamon County, Springfield, Ill.

He was born March 15, 1940, in Springfield, Ill., to James Charles and Myrtle Ruby Hurley Rogers, Sr. He married Dorothy Smith on April 20, 1985.
His parents; one brother, Gary Dean Rogers; and one stepson, Michael Campbell, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Rogers; one daughter, Donna (Don) Skowronski of Springfield; two sons, Donald (Jennifer) Rogers, Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., and Ernest Nelson Rogers, Sr. of Rembert, S.C.; three stepsons: Bob (Melissa) Campbell of Andrew, Jody (Linda) Campbell and Terry (Michelle) Campbell both of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, James Charles Rogers, Jr. of Mesa, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a resident of Tovey since 1995 and had formerly lived in Springfield, Tallula and Petersburg. Don was a member of Teamsters Laborers Local #916. He was a member of the US Marine Corps for five years, was a veteran of the US Air Force and retired after 16 years, seven months and 8 days of service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Taylorville, a life member of the DAV #115, VFW 4495, and was also a member of the American Legion #2910. He loved working on cars, enjoyed fishing, hunting when he was younger, loved cooking out and spending time with his family and friends.
Visitation: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home, Pastor Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
