Aubrey Faye "Shorty" Gardner, 73, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2003 in Hot Springs, Ark. after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2003 at Forest Park West Cemetery, Meriwether Road. Officiating will be Reverend Morris "Trey" Lewis, III of Norphlet, Ark. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2003 at Rose-Neath's Southside Funeral Home. Aubrey was born September 9, 1929 in Bearden, Ark. to Joseph and Annie Mae Gardner. He was a retired captain of the Shreveport Fire Department. He also owned United Insulators and United Fastener and Tool Co. He was a veteran of the United States Army and an active member of the Shriners. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Lewis Gardner; son, Ronald l. Gardner; brothers, Henry Gardner, Silas Gardner, Melvin Gardner, Loyce Gardner, Orlen Gardner and sister, Dorsie Milligan. Aubrey is survived by his son, Terry L. Gardner and wife Debbie of Minden; daughter, Twyla Gardner Hawthorne and husband Bryan of Shreveport; brother, Roy Gardner; sisters, Flossie Files, Marie Presley; grandchildren, Stephanie Hawthorne, Sean-Michael Hawthorne, Jennifer LaPierre, Tracy Stiener, Harold L. Gardner and special friend, Juanita Koffman. The family suggests memorials be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital or Hope Youth Ranch in Minden.
