William "Bill" Lloyd Hoff Sr. 78, owner of Hoff's Vegetable Farm and Hoff Oil Company, passed away at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility on Monday evening, November 11, 2013.

Bill was born December 17, 1934 to Irwin and Eldee (Townsend) Hoff in their home on Behnke Road, in Coldwater. In 1943, they moved to what is now known as Hoff's Vegetable Farm. In 1955, Bill joined his father in establishing the now 150 acre produce farm and market. During the winter months, Bill originally worked for Art VanElst at V&K Oil Company out of Marshall delivering fuel oil. In 1962, he took the business solo under the name of Hoff Oil Company which he operated until 2005. He would mention how he delivered fuel to the trucks that were working on the construction of I-69 in the mid-1960's. In 1979, he along with Rick Gleeson, purchased Elliott's Market that became Rick's Party Store and Hoff's too.

On June 19, 1954 he married Connie Cantrell at St Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater. Together, they had 6 children; William (Charlie) Hoff Jr, Brenda (Cameron) Gary, Kimberly (Rob) Lane, Michael Hoff and Lori Hoff-Todd.

Bill was in the first class to graduate on the Coldwater High School football field, in 1952. After high school, he joined the Air Force Reserves from 1952-1955. Bill was known for his patience, generosity, hard work and long hours; it was not uncommon for him to start his day at 4 am with the frost alarm going off and still be putting up orders for the next day at midnight. Over the years, he established a relationship with Marvin and June Ludwig of Hollywood, Florida. For over 40 years, he shipped tomatoes, pumpkins and squash as well as other produce to the South Florida area. In 1977, he recalled shipping over 20 semi loads that season. He never complained and always had a smile. He was a 'whiz' at math and enjoyed a good game of Pinochle or Poker. You would find him watching football or basketball on any given Sunday afternoon.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents Irwin and Eldee, his step-father Wilbur Barnes, Sisters; Mildred (John) Thornquist and Alice (Glenn) King.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Girard.
