daughter of Samuel Benton and Esther Prouty (transcript of death record)

On March 12, 1829 Hannah married Willard Stoddard in Waterford, Vermont. Their children include Hannah (born 1834), George (born 1845), Samuel (born 1836), Harriet (born 1838), Mary (born 1840), Charles (born 1842).

In his book "Samuel Slade Benton: His Ancestors and Descendants" (1901, Merrymount Press), author Josiah Henry Benton states "She was a woman of strong, independent character, of great force and industry... I saw her last at the home of her son, Josiah Stoddard, where she lived, in 1890, I think. She was then eighty-five, clear-minded, of good memory, and quite capable of taking care of herself and having a suitable degree of influence upon all those around her. She was what may be called a notable woman, and much respected by her neighbors. "

A death announcement was published in the St. Johnsbury Caledonian March 9, 1893; it states Hannah died at the home of her son, JW Stoddard.
